Kenyans in these African countries will vote in the presidential elections this year

Kenya’s electoral commission is mandated by the constitution to register eligible Kenyan voters in preparation for the general elections in August.

This year, Kenyans residing in five African countries will be given the opportunity to register and participate in the elections. The electoral commission will conduct voter registration in Pretoria, South Africa; Arusha and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Bujumbura, Burundi, and Kampala, Uganda.

The voter registration in these countries will end 6th March 2017.

According to Kenya’s constitution, in order to register as a voter, one must:

  1. Be a Kenyan citizen
  2. Be 18 years old and above
  3. Have a valid Kenyan passport
  4. Be of sound mind
  5. Not have been convicted of an election offence during the preceding five years
