US Election: Homeland Security Speaks

The US Department of Homeland Security has in, a statement, contradicted Donald Trump’s claim of electoral fraud in the just concluded presidential and congressional elections, saying there is no evidence of such fraud.

“The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history. Right now, across the country, election officials are reviewing and double-checking the entire election process prior to finalizing the result…There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.”

The End Of A Twitter Presidency

Since his first presidential tweet on 20 January 2017, Trump has used Twitter to communicate with people in the US and fully integrate it into his administration by creating/announcing policy decisions as well as attacking his opponents. Trump, who is dejected by his electoral loss, has refused to acknowledge the president-elect, Joe Biden, and again launched a series of tweets undermining the results of the elections.

To be familiar with Trump’s tweets is to know that they mostly translate into action. President Trump, alongside tweeting claims about the elections, has refused to concede he has lost, stalling the transition process. President-Elect Biden’s team needs Trump’s formal recognition to be able to access classified information which will aid staffing decisions and planning for the administration. In trying to quell the silent war, Oklahoma Republican senator, James Lankford, has said he would intervene if President-Elect Joe Biden is not granted access to US presidential daily intelligence briefings by Friday.

What If Trump Never Concedes?

While it is not in the law that an outgoing president has to pass goodwill to an incoming one, it has been the norm in America. Trump’s endless legal tantrums prove he may not concede soon. If this happens, the constitution will end his term, and he will be considered a trespasser as from January 20, 2021.
